Dear Diary,
Today at school Mrs. K asked us what we want to be when we grow up and everyone said the normal things, doctor, teacher, football player. I said "something with computers" and some kids looked at me weird, I know it!
Like I care.
What I want to be when I grow up, by Eva, age 12:
I want to work with computers. I don't know the name of the job yet. Maybe it doesn't have a name yet, that's how new it will be! But I know how it feels: I turn on our PC and the screen makes the little sound and it's like the whole world is inside a box on the desk and it's WAITING for me to do things! I have broken it a few times because I click on everything, I want to learn. And I am not sure how but I did manage to bring it back to life! :D Computers are so cool, they have so many games in them!
And I also like to write. But NOT diary writing, sorry diary, no offence, I'm bored writing how was my day. I mean story writing maybe or also writing stories for RPG games, storylines! Stories, and also the other kind, where you write down a thought and then you look at it and you ask it questions like a police detective. Why do people say things they don't mean? I don't understand it.
So: computers + writing. I asked Mrs. K if that's a job and she said "we'll see," which is what adults say instead of "no."
But here is what I REALLY believe, and I'm writing it here so future me can check if I was right:
One day the computers will do all the boring stuff. Not the fun stuff - the boring stuff. Homework you already know how to do, copying things out neatly, remembering where you put stuff. There will be robots, but not scary film robots. Helpful ones. Like a friend who lives in the computer and knows EVERYTHING, and you can ask it anything, even embarrassing questions, even at 3 in the morning, and it never laughs at you and it never gets tired of you.
And then nobody will feel stupid ever again, because everyone can just ask. That's obviously what it will be for.
This will probably exist when I'm like 80 years old. Which is annoying because I'll be too old to enjoy it. Lucky future kids!
Anyway. When the friend in the computer comes, I think school will be totally different! You won't have to memorise stuff because you can just ask. So the teachers can finally teach the interesting things instead, and everyone will get smarter, because all the answers in the world will be RIGHT THERE. Imagine being dumb when you can just ask. Impossible! Everyone's going to know everything and everyone's going to be so smart!
I have to go now, I want to go to my friend's house.
Future Eva, if you're reading this: are you doing the computer job that didn't have a name? Did you keep writing? Is the friend in the computer nice?
I bet it's nice. I bet you talk to it every day.
